Saudi Arabia Increases Ghana's Hajj Quota to 6,000 In Bid to Strengthen Ties

Accra, Ghana - 06 April, 2025 - In a significant development in Ghana-Saudi Arabia relations, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has increased Ghana's Hajj quota to over 6,000 pilgrims, Ghana's Foreign Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced.
The announcement is seen as a major boost to Ghana's Muslim community, which has been eagerly awaiting the opportunity to perform the sacred pilgrimage to Mecca.
''With great pleasure, I hosted the Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Ghana, H.E. Sultan Abdulrahman Al-Dhakel. We agreed to expand the frontiers of Ghana-Saudi Arabia bilateral relations and to roll out historic projects in the coming months and years across multiple sectors. Saudi Arabia has proudly increased Ghana’s Hajj quota, now exceeding 6,000,'' Ablakwa wrot eon his X account (formerly Twitter).
This development comes after a meeting between Ghana's Foreign Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and the Saudi Ambassador to Ghana.
Additionally, the Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia is scheduled to visit Ghana later this year, further solidifying diplomatic ties.
''I have also gladly accepted to host my distinguished counterpart, the Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia who has expressed his desire to pay me a visit this year. President Mahama’s government will continue to forge strong ties with our friends in Saudi Arabia.''
