Ho Circuit Court Convicts Armed Robber for Attacking Pregnant Woman With Machete
Ho, Volta Region, Ghana - 7 July, 2025 - A 25-year-old armed robber has been sentenced by the Ho Circuit Court in Ghana's Volta Region after pleading guilty to a violent robbery incident that occurred in May this year. Paul Avortide, alias "Tinted," was convicted on July 1, 2025, by His Honour Osman Abdul Hakeem, Esq.
According to the facts of the case, Avortide had accosted a pregnant Nigerian woman, Ogechi Chidiebere, at around 4:00 a.m. on May 21, 2025, at Tsikpota near New Housing, Ho. Armed with a machete, he threatened the victim and made away with GHS 3,000 and her Tecno Spark 30c smartphone valued at GHS 2,500.
The victim was on her way to the Ho Municipal Hospital for antenatal care when the incident occurred.
The police investigation that led to Avortide's arrest was sparked by the arrest of 23-year-old Harmony Nbonu, also known as "Arab Money," on June 19, 2025, at the Ho main market.
Further investigations by the Volta Regional Police Command led to Avortide's apprehension and subsequent conviction.
The court has sentenced Avortide to a term of imprisonment, serving justice to the victim and the community.
