My Dear Husband Instructed me to Leave the Premises - Appointments Committee Clerk Speaks Out

Accra, Ghana - 05 Feb, 2025 - Gifty Jiagge-Gobah, Clerk to the Appointments Committee, has explained that she left a heated committee session on January 30, 2025, after receiving instructions from her husband to exit the premises immediately.
The session was marked by intense conflict between the Majority and Minority sides over the nominations of Kwabena Mintah Akandoh and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa for the positions of Minister for Health and Minister for Foreign Affairs, respectively.
Mrs. Jiagge-Gobah revealed that she was under pressure from the majority members to administer the oath to the health minister-designate when she appeared before a Parlaimentary Investigative Commitee on February 5, 2025. She revealed that, the Minority however, opposed this move, creating a tense standoff.
Despite the intense pressure, Jiagge-Gobah stood firm, insisting that she would only proceed if instructed to do so by the Clerk to Parliament.
Mrs. Jiagge-Gobah recounted the intense moment, saying; “They [Majority] kept screaming at me that I should let the nominee take the oath. The minority leader was also screaming at me [the video is there to prove everything]. So, at a point, I got hot so I started fanning myself and I took a seat.
“At the tail end when the majority leader was trying to engage both sides, I got three calls and a message from my dear husband Instructing me to leave the premises immediately; that order I took and I left. I exited through another door and went to stand in front of the clerk’s office,” she added.
In a separate development, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin apologized to Mrs. Jiagge-Gobah for his outburst during a vetting session. Afenyo-Markin had accused Jiagge-Gobah of bias and procedural lapses, leading the Minority to call for her resignation.
He later expressed regret for his remarks, admitting that his frustration led to an unprofessional reaction.
