Muntaka Vows to Fast-Track Cannabis Bill

Accra, Ghana - 25 Jan, 2025 -  Ghana's Minister-Designate for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, has vowed to fast-track the passage of the Narcotics Control Commission Amendment Bill 2023.

The proposed legislation seeks to grant the Ministry of Interior the authority to license cannabis cultivation for industrial, medicinal, and economic purposes.

Muntaka's commitment to the bill's passage was made during his vetting before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Friday.

He assured stakeholders that he would engage in extensive consultations with President John Dramani Mahama, experts, and Members of Parliament to ensure the bill's comprehensive nature.

“The board will be there and the President will be made aware of the law and I believe that once it is in tandem with his vision, you can be rest assured that I will lay it without delay.

“But obviously, I will have to listen to the experts and make a decision afterwards and I know my way around this House and I know how to get things done,'' he added.
