Mahama's 'No-Fees-Stress Policy: Registration Portal Now Open for First-Year Students

Accra, Ghana - 29 April, 2025 - Ghana's Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has launched an application portal for the "No-Fees-Stress" policy, a flagship initiative of President John Dramani Mahama's administration aimed at making tertiary education more accessible.
The policy will cover academic fees for first-year students in public tertiary institutions, with GH¢499.8 million allocated in the 2025 budget.
This move is expected to significantly boost Ghana's gross tertiary enrollment ratio, projected to rise from 22% to 40% by 2030. The Students Loan Trust Fund will administer the financial support, ensuring eligible students receive funding promptly.
In a statement, Dr. Saajida Shiraz, CEO of the Students Loan Trust Fund, noted that the Fund will manage the financial support, guaranteeing eligible students receive funding promptly and efficiently, in line with its mandate.
The No-Fees-Stress Portal provides a user-friendly registration process, streamlining applications and eligibility verification.
By removing financial barriers, the policy aims to promote human capital development and contribute to Ghana's economic growth. Ghana has been working towards enhancing financial inclusion, with the World Bank noting the country's potential for universal financial access through innovative technology. The digital finance landscape is evolving rapidly, with mobile money usage soaring to over 80% of the population.
