''My client did not write the alleged statement on social'' - Counsel for Oliver Barker-Vormawor

Accra, Ghana - 29 Jan, 2025 - Oliver Barker-Vomawor's legal team has issued a strong denial of allegations linking their client to bribery claims involving members of Parliament's Appisopintments Committee.

The controversy centers around a social media post attributed to Barker-Vomawor, a prominent activist and organizer of Democracy Hub, which sparked widespread attention and debate.

However, Barker-Vormawor's lawyers have strongly denied the allegations, stating that the post was fake and not made by their client.

Appearing before the Appointments Committee on Wednesday, January 29, Barker-Vormawor’s lead counsel, Nana Ato Dadzie apologized for the post and clarified that another post on Barker-Vormawor's Facebook page was meant to inform the public about reports of bribery, not to disparage committee members.

“The statement is fake; this is not coming from Mr Vormawor. He never posted that statement. The statement reads: ‘NDC members on the Appointments Committee take monies from Mahama’s ministerial nominees before approving them, and the Deputy Speaker must submit himself to ORAL.’ This is not from Mr. Vormawor. He didn’t say it at all. This is a reporter’s speech. We apologise for the post he made. Oliver Vormawor is ready to apologise.”

The allegations have sparked public debate, with some calling for the suspension of the vetting process until Barker-Vormawor appears before the committee. Chairman of the Appointments Committee Bernard Ahiafor has rejected the accusations, describing them as baseless and damaging to the integrity of the vetting process.
