Adu-Boahene and Wife Sues Attorney General, Seeks Bail Reduction in GH¢200m Case

Accra, Ghana - 26 March, 2025 - A former Director General of Ghana's National Signals Bureau, Kwabena Adu-Boahene, and his wife, Angela Adjei Boateng, are contesting what they deem "unjustifiably harsh" bail conditions set by prosecutors.
The couple is currently being held in custody, facing allegations of financial misconduct related to a $7 million cyber defence system contract.
Adu-Boahene's lead lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea Esq, argues that the bail demands of GH¢120 million for his client and GH¢80 million for his wife are excessive and potentially unconstitutional.
The defence team claims that the bail terms are designed to circumvent constitutional detention limits and infringe upon their clients' rights.
The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) arrested Adu-Boahene upon his arrival from London, and his wife was taken into custody when she visited the EOCO office.
The Attorney General, Dr Dominic Ayine, alleges that Adu-Boahene diverted funds allocated for the cyber defence system project for personal use, including transferring GH¢27.1 million to a private account
The case has sparked concerns about bail regulations and constitutional protections in Ghana's judicial system.
The High Court's Human Rights Division is set to hear the bail reduction plea on May 28, 2025.
