Man Behind Viral 'Military Recruitment' Video Arrested for Impersonation
A Ghanaian man has been arrested for impersonating a soldier and spreading false information about the country's military. The suspect, Alex Cobbinah, was apprehended by the Military Police at his residence in Accra and handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further investigation.
Cobbinah had created a stir on social media with a viral video in which he wore a Ghana Navy vest and displayed military items while making false claims about President-elect John Dramani Mahama's plans for the military.
The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) in a statement, warned the public about the dangers of engaging with individuals who claim to offer assistance with military recruitment in exchange for payment. According to them, such activities are considered fraudulent, and those found guilty may face prosecution.
The Military Police apprehended Cobbinah at his residence in Madina Zongo Junction, Accra, and he has been handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The GAF also reminded citizens that wearing military uniforms or using military equipment without authorization is a serious offense, punishable under the National Liberation Council Decree (NLCD) 177 of 1967.
