Mahama to Establish Committee to Implement 120-Day Social Contract
President-elect John Dramani Mahama is set to launch a committee to oversee the implementation of his 120-day social contract, which aims to introduce key reforms and policies during the early stages of his administration.
This contract is designed to address pressing issues and set the tone for his presidency.
Key Objectives of 120-day social contract
- Cabinet Formation: Nominate cabinet ministers within the first 14 days
- Government Efficiency: Establish a lean and efficient government by day 90
- Code of Conduct: Implement a robust code of conduct and standards for all government officials
- Economic Dialogue: Initiate a national economic dialogue focused on fiscal consolidation
Mahama also plans to abolish several levies, including the E-Levy, COVID-19 levy, 10% betting levy, and emissions levy.
During a recent meeting with the Apostolic Fathers, Mahama stressed the importance of accountability, citing the constitution's emphasis on upholding principles of probity and accountability.
He announced also plans to inaugurate a committee to oversee the 120-day social contract, which includes "Operation Recover All Loot".
“We have carefully selected the things that we thought were achievable in 120 days. So we are going to work diligently to ensure that at the end of the 120 days, we can check each of them off,'' he stated.
“I will soon inaugurate a committee focused on achieving these goals. Under this, we have Operation Recover All Loot.”
“We want to raise accountability to another level. It’s in our constitution that we should uphold the principles of probity and accountability, so it’s a constitutional obligation for us to do so,'' he added.
