Major Cybercrime Bust: 39 Suspects Apprehended in Tema Operation

Accra, Ghana, August 21, 2025 - A collaborative effort between the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has led to a major crackdown on cybercrime, with 39 individuals taken into custody for suspected involvement in illicit online activities. The operation, carried out at Adom City Estate in Tema Community 25, marks a notable success in the ongoing battle against cybercrime.

The operation, which took place on Thursday, August 21, 2025, was intelligence-led, with law enforcement sources indicating that the suspects were believed to be operating a cyber fraud hub from the residence. The CSA and CID worked together to apprehend the suspects, including three minors and a woman believed to be an escort linked to one of the alleged ringleaders.

During the raid, several laptops, mobile phones, and other digital devices were seized. These devices are currently undergoing forensic analysis to build a strong case against the suspects.

According to Superintendent Kwame Ofori, Deputy Director of the CID's Cybercrime Unit, "Every device seized will be thoroughly examined to disrupt a well-organised network that has been defrauding unsuspecting victims both locally and internationally."

The CSA emphasized the importance of public vigilance in the fight against cyber fraud, urging citizens to be cautious when engaging online, especially with unsolicited financial or personal requests. The authority assured that due process will be followed, particularly in handling the cases of the minors.

All 39 suspects have been transferred to the CID Headquarters in Accra for further interrogation and profiling. The investigation is ongoing, with efforts to identify and prosecute all individuals involved in the cybercrime network.
