Nungua, Greater Accra Region, Ghana - 04 April, 2025 - Ghana's Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has held talks with traditional leaders in the Nungua Traditional Area, aimed at strengthening ties between the police and local authorities to promote peace and security.

The meeting, which took place on Thursday, April 3, 2025, was attended by members of the Police Management Board (POMAB) and traditional leaders, including Nungua Mantse, Nii Odaifio Welentsi III, and Gborbu Wulormor, Nuumo Borketey Laweh XXXIII.

IGP Yohuno, who was appointed to his position recently, emphasized the importance of cooperation between the police and traditional authorities in maintaining stability and promoting community safety.

He acknowledged the crucial role played by traditional leaders in upholding law and order and expressed his appreciation for their unwavering support.

The traditional leaders, in turn, congratulated IGP Yohuno on his appointment and assured him of their full support in his efforts to improve security across the country. They encouraged him to work closely with all stakeholders to address the security challenges facing Ghana.

The meeting is seen as a significant step towards building trust and cooperation between the police and local communities, which is essential for effective policing and maintaining law and order.

IGP Yohuno's visit to Nungua Traditional Area is part of his efforts to engage with local communities and traditional leaders to better understand their security concerns and develop effective strategies to address them.

The meeting comes at a time when the Nungua community is still reeling from the recent tragic incident that occurred during an enstoolment ceremony, where a young woman, Lawrencia Naa Borley Nelson, also known as Naa Gamu, was fatally shot. The incident has raised concerns about the need for improved security measures and crowd control during large public events.
