Mahama names Mohammed Abdul-Salam as Acting NLA Boss

Accra, Ghana - 16 Jan. 2025 - Ghana's President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Mohammed Abdul-Salam as the Acting Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), effective January 15, 2025.

Abdul-Salam's appointment comes after Sammy Awuku stepped down as Director-General, citing his election as Member of Parliament for Akuapem North.

Abdul-Salam, formerly the Regional Secretary for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Northern Region, takes the reins with a mandate to steer the operations of the NLA. His appointment was made in accordance with Article IPS (1) of the Constitution and section 45(1) of the National Lotto Act, 2006 (Act 7).

Awuku's resignation marked the end of his tenure at the NLA, which began in August 2021. In his resignation letter, he emphasized his commitment to serving his constituents and focusing on his parliamentary duties. Awuku also requested a swift appointment of a replacement to ensure a smooth transition.
