Mahama Imposes Night-Time Curfew in Troubled Bawku

Bawku, Ghana - 18 Jan, 2025 - A night-time curfew has been imposed on the Bawku Municipality and surrounding areas in Ghana's Upper East Region by Ghana's Pesident John Dramani Maham.

The curfew, which takes effect on Monday, January 13, 2025, will be in place from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

The move is aimed at restoring peace and stability in the region, which has been plagued by tensions and violence. The government has also banned the possession of arms, ammunition, and offensive weapons in the affected areas.

In a statement, the Ministry of Interior warned that anyone found with such items would face arrest and prosecution. The government has appealed for calm and urged local leaders and residents to work towards a peaceful resolution.

Meanwhule, President John Dramani Mahama is scheduled to meet with the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on Sunday, January 19, to discuss the situation in Bawku and Walewale.
