Mahama Declares 'The Future is African' at UN Assembly
New York – September 25,2025 - President John Dramani Mahama delivered a powerful message at the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, declaring that "the future is African". With conviction, he emphasized that Africa's rising population, particularly its youthful demographic, will drive global innovation, growth, and progress. By 2050, Africa is expected to account for more than 25% of the world's population and one-third of all young people aged 15 to 24.
Mahama stressed that Africa is not just a key player in the future of humanity but is already a catalyst for human potential, development, economic reform, and ecological stability. He noted that Africa's contributions often go unrecognized due to historical biases rooted in colonialism, racism, and imperialism.
"The future is African," Mahama declared emphatically, repeating the phrase for emphasis. He urged the global community to recognize Africa's growing importance in shaping global development and transformation.
Mahama's statement comes as Africa continues to play a vital role in global affairs, from peacekeeping to economic development. His address highlights the need for the international community to acknowledge and support Africa's growing importance.
