Ketu South Floods: Mahama Directs Finance Minister to Fund Phase II of Blekusu Sea Defence Project

Ketu South, Volta Region, Ghana - 07 March, 2025 - President John Dramani Mahama has taken swift action to address the devastating flooding in Ketu South, directing the Finance Minister to allocate funds for the second phase of the Blekusu Sea Defence Project.
This move aims to mitigate the flooding that has displaced hundreds of residents in Salakope, Amutinu, and Agavedzi.
During his visit to Agavedzi in the Volta Region, Mahama acknowledged the urgent need for action, emphasizing a dual approach to tackle the issue. He plans to not only start building the second phase of the defence wall but also resettle those whose houses have been affected, by finding a more suitable site for the resettlement project.
“So I am going to ask the Finance Minister to include funding to start phase two of the Blekusu Sea Defence Project,” Mahama stated.
“There are two things we need to do—start building phase two of the defence wall and, at the same time, resettle those whose houses have been affected. So we will look for a more suitable site for the resettlement project,'' he added.
The Blekusu Sea Defence Project's second phase is crucial, as the first phase has already proven successful in protecting communities like Havedzie, Horvi, Blekusu, and Agavedzi from tidal waves. However, the delay in starting the second phase has left residents in Salakope, Amutinu, and other areas vulnerable to flooding.
