Climate Change: Akufo-Addo demands immediate solutions at COP29

Baku, Azerbaijan - Nov 13, 2024 - Ghana's President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has issued a rallying cry to world leaders gathered at COP29 in Azerbaijan, emphasizing the urgent need for concrete actions to combat the escalating climate crisis. 

Speaking during the World Climate Leaders Summit on November 13, at COP29 in Azerbaijan on Wednesday, November 13, President Akufo-Addo stressed that the time for rhetoric is over, and it's now crucial to implement effective measures to shield vulnerable communities from climate change's devastating impacts.

“We gather here, we must demonstrate that we are not only individuals or policy makers but as people bound by the love for our land and environment

“Our children’s future hinge on our decisions, so COP29 must be a shift from dialogue to action,” he stated.

Key Areas for Action

President Akufo-Addo highlighted several critical areas requiring immediate attention:

- Climate Financing: Developed nations must commit to financial support to accelerate the transition to green energy.
- Protecting Vulnerable Communities: Effective measures are needed to safeguard lives and ecosystems worldwide.
- Shift from Dialogue to Action: COP29 must mark a turning point from discussions to tangible, impactful solutions.
