Accra, Ghana - 17 Feb, 2025 -  Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency, Mustapha Gbande has issued a stern warning to former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, declaring that he will face justice, even posthumously, if he refuses to return to the country to answer corruption allegations.

In an interview with Joy News on Monday, February 17,  Gbande reiterated his dedication to upholding integrity, stating that he prioritizes the respect of Ghanaians over personal wealth and will never compromise his values for personal gain.

He also stressed that the authorities will stop at nothing to repatriate Ofori-Atta and retrieve any embezzled public funds, leaving no stone unturned in their pursuit of justice.

“I fear to steal what is for the public, I will never steal what is for the public. If for any reason I come into contact with a decision to harm the people of this country, I will rather be poor, so that Ghanaians will respect me for it,” he stated.

The warning comes after the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) declared Ofori-Atta a suspect in four high-profile corruption investigations, including allegations related to the National Cathedral project and Strategic Mobilization Limited (SML).

Ofori-Atta, who served as Finance Minister from 2017 to 2024, is currently out of the country, reportedly seeking medical attention in the United States.

However, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng expressed skepticism about his claims during a press conference on February 12, declaring that if Ofori-Atta fails to comply, the Office of the Special Prosecutor will take all necessary legal steps to secure his return.

“If Ken Ofori-Atta should refuse to come, every measure will be deployed to bring him down to this country. If for any reason he passes on, his dead body will be prosecuted and jailed, and every stolen money belonging to the people of Ghana will be retrieved. It is not just an agenda of government but a mandate,” Agyebeng said.
