Appointments Committee summons Barker-Vormawor over Bribery Allegations

Accra, Ghana - 28 Jan, 2025 - A Ghanaian activist, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, has been summoned to appear before Parliament's Appointments Committee to substantiate allegations that the committee has been demanding bribes from ministerial nominees.

The allegations, which have been strongly denied by the committee, have raised concerns about corruption and the integrity of Ghana's parliamentary approval process.

The Chairman of the Appointments Committee, Bernard Ahiafor, has described the allegations as "baseless" and called on Mr. Barker-Vormawor to provide evidence to support his claims.

Mr. Barker-Vormawor is expected to appear before the committee on January 29, where he will be required to present evidence to back his allegations. If he fails to do so, the committee has warned that it will take action.

“So, I am therefore directing the Clerk to the Committee to invite him to appear before the committee tomorrow to substantiate his claims, or we will apply the necessary law,” Mr Ahiafor stated.
