President Mahama to Launch Feed Ghana Programme on April 12

Accra, Ghana 08 April, 2025 - The Feed Ghana Programme, a flagship initiative aimed at revolutionizing Ghana's agricultural sector, is set to be officially launched by President John Dramani Mahama on Saturday, April 12, 2025.

Initially planned for April 11, the launch date was rescheduled to accommodate other critical government activities.

Ghana's agricultural sector is grappling with daunting challenges, including food import dependency, production inefficiencies, lack of infrastructure, limited access to essential inputs, and weak integration within the agricultural value chain.

The country relies heavily on food imports, totaling over $2 billion per year, with poultry alone accounting for $300 million. Substantial post-harvest losses persist due to insufficient storage and processing facilities, poor transportation networks, and inefficient market connections.

The Feed Ghana Programme aims to boost agricultural production to feed Ghanaians and provide raw materials for agro-industry, create sustainable job opportunities in the agricultural sector, improve food security and nutritional outcomes, and increase export revenues. The programme features several key initiatives, including the advancement of SMART agriculture through the launch of Farmers' Service Centres, the promotion of vital grains and legumes for consumption, agro-industry, and export opportunities, and the implementation of controlled environment farming through greenhouses.

The Feed Ghana Programme aims to boost poultry production through its 'Poultry Farm to Table' project, revitalizing the industry. The programme's launch, scheduled for April 12, 2025, at the Methodist School Park in Techiman, Bono East Region, is expected to attract key stakeholders, including policymakers, farmers and development partners.

Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, John Setor Dumelo, announced the launch on social media, highlighting the programme's significance.
