Jinapor Sets Ambitious Targets for New Petroleum Commission Board

Accra, August 19,2025 - The Minister of Energy and Green Transitions, John Jinapor, has officially inaugurated the Board of the Petroleum Commission, tasking the members with revitalizing Ghana's upstream petroleum sector. The sector faces significant challenges, including recent arbitrations, investment droughts, dwindling oil and gas reserves, and production issues.

During the inauguration, Minister Jinapor highlighted the complexities of the upstream petroleum industry, emphasizing the need for the Board to synergize their expertise to enhance Ghana's upstream sector. He noted that the Ministry is working to amend laws and regulations to introduce flexibility in the fiscal regime, increase predictability, and transparency in the industry.

The newly inaugurated Board members are:

- Mr. Ernest Thompson (Chairman)

- Ms. Victoria Emeafa Hardcastle

- Prof. Nana Ama Browne Klutse

- Mr. Crisler Akwei Ankrah

- Hon. Mensah Joseph Kwasi

- Dr. Hasiyatu Abubakari

- Mr. Hassan Thompson Osman

 

The Energy Minister assured the Board of his full support in their activities, emphasizing the importance of their role in shaping the future of Ghana's upstream petroleum sector.

The Minister also emphasized the need for local content and participation in the core business of oil and gas exploration and production. The Board's role in promoting local participation and ensuring that Ghanaian businesses benefit from the industry's growth will be crucial in achieving this goal.

The inauguration of the Petroleum Commission Board marks a new chapter in Ghana's petroleum sector. With the challenges and opportunities ahead, the Board's expertise and dedication will be instrumental in shaping the industry's future and contributing to Ghana's economic growth.
