Fuel Prices Rise Again, Marking Third Increase in 2025

Accra, Ghana - 04 Feb, 2025 - Ghanaian motorists are facing another increase in fuel prices, the third this year, as Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) adjust their prices upward.
The latest price hike, effective in the first week of February, reflects the ongoing volatility in global crude oil markets and the depreciation of the Ghanaian Cedi.
Shell, one of the major OMCs, has raised its petrol price by GH₵0.64 per litre to GH₵16.23, while diesel now costs GH₵16.20 per litre, up by GH₵0.41. Star Oil, another major player, has maintained its petrol price at GH₵14.99 per litre but increased diesel prices by GH₵0.38 per litre to GH₵15.37.
The Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) had warned of a potential price hike, citing the rising cost of global crude oil and the Cedi's depreciation. In response to the price increase, the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has assured consumers that it is working to stabilize fuel prices and mitigate the impact of future price fluctuations.
