Cape Three Points, Ahanta West District - 5 July, 2025 - Ghana has taken a significant step forward in its upstream petroleum sector with the official Declaration of Commerciality for the Eban-Akoma oil discoveries in the Cape Three Points Block 4.

The declaration was submitted by a consortium of joint venture partners, including Eni Ghana Exploration & Production Ltd, Vitol Upstream Tano Ltd, Woodfields Upstream Ghana Ltd, and GNPC Exploration & Production Company Ltd, in collaboration with the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation.

The declaration follows the successful completion of an appraisal program that confirmed the commercial viability of hydrocarbon resources in the Eban-1X and Akoma-1X wells.

The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, hailed the development as a crucial milestone, underscoring the government's dedication to harnessing the country's oil and gas resources in a sustainable manner.

“It highlights the immense potential of our offshore resources to fuel economic transformation, enhance energy security, and drive Ghana’s industrialisation agenda,” he stated.

The minister emphasized that the discovery underscores the immense potential of Ghana's offshore resources to drive economic transformation, enhance energy security, and fuel industrialization.

The joint venture partners are now expected to prepare a comprehensive Plan of Development aimed at ensuring optimal resource recovery, value maximization, and increased local content.

The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, in partnership with the Petroleum Commission and Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, has pledged to provide oversight and support to ensure the project is implemented effectively and in alignment with Ghana's long-term energy strategy.
