I'm Not Here to Test Waters, I'm Here for Power - Bryan Acheampong Throws Hat into NPP Flagbearership Contest
Kumasi, Ghana - 23 June, 2025 - The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is set to face a competitive leadership contest as Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Member of Parliament for Abetifi, has formally declared his intention to lead the party into the 2028 general elections.
Dr. Acheampong, a former Minister for Food and Agriculture, emphasized the need for party unity as he threw his hat into the ring.
Addressing the NPP Constituency Chairmen Caucus Conference in Kumasi, Dr. Acheampong highlighted his extensive experience within the party, citing his roles in grassroots mobilization and Cabinet service.
He expressed confidence in his ability to lead the party to victory in 2028, a message that resonated with party leaders in attendance.
“I’m not here to test the waters. I’m here for power,” he declared.
The NPP is scheduled to select its flagbearer on January 31, 2026, and Dr. Acheampong's declaration signals a significant development in the party's internal politics.
He joins a growing list of prominent figures vying for the party's leadership, including Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, former Education Minister, and Kennedy Agyapong, former MP for Assin Central.
