Israel-Iran Conflict: We Have Identified 922 Ghanaian Citizens in Israel for Evacuation - Ablakwa

Accra, Ghana - 17 June, 2025 - Ghana's Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced that the government is working tirelessly to evacuate Ghanaians from Israel as the conflict with Iran intensifies.
According to Minister Ablakwa, the embassy in Israel has identified 922 Ghanaians currently residing in the country, including 65 students studying in six Israeli universities.
He wrote on his X account that while an evacuation from Israel cannot be carried out currently due to the state of emergency and border closures, the government is pursuing approval options with Israeli authorities. Meanwhile, the embassy is working closely with the Ghanaian community, ensuring they have access to bomb shelters and establishing regular communication channels.
''With Israeli authorities declaring a state of emergency and closing all borders, an evacuation from Israel cannot be carried out now except with the express authorization of Israeli authorities — Ghana is pursuing those approval options. ''
Ablakwa disclosed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has approved an Emergency Evacuation Plan for Israel, which will be activated as soon as conditions permit.

He assured that the government, under the leadership of President Mahama, is committed to sparing no effort in protecting Ghanaians caught up in the conflict and ensuring their safe evacuation.
So far, there have been no reports of Ghanaian fatalities or injuries. The evacuation from Iran, however, is proceeding successfully, and the government remains vigilant in its efforts to safeguard its citizens.

PROTECTING GHANAIANS DURING THE ISRAEL-IRAN CONFLICT (UPDATE No. 2)
1) No Ghanaian fatality or injuries.

7) In a briefing by the Israeli Foreign Ministry, all diplomats and embassy officials from all over the world have been encouraged to work from home — our embassy is complying with that advice.
