Ghana's Media Leaders Unite to Mentor Young Journalists on World Press Freedom Day

Accra, Ghana - 02 May, 2025 - Ghana's leading media professionals have joined forces to mentor and inspire young journalists in celebration of World Press Freedom Day, highlighting the crucial role of a free press in shaping democratic societies.

The initiative, part of the Newsroom Business Initiative (NBI), brought together industry experts to equip aspiring journalists with the skills and principles necessary to navigate the evolving media landscape.

The event, held at Bluecrest University College on May 2, 2025, featured a distinguished lineup of speakers, including Theo Yartey, Editor of Graphic Communications Group Ltd, Emefa Ewoenam Atiamoah-Eli, Coordinator for Strategic Partnerships and Projects- JoyBrands- MGL; Kobby Spiky Nkrumah, Head of EIB Digital; Dr. Ohene Asante, Executive Secretary – the world Technology Forum; John Kumi, Head of Department for Media Communication at Bluecrest University College; and Raymond Smith of AfriMass Network.

“As custodians of truth and transparency, we recognize the immense responsibility that comes with journalism," said Raymond Smith of AfriMass Network "Through this collaboration, we hope to not only celebrate press freedom but also instill a deep sense of purpose in the young professionals who will carry the mantle forward."

The one-day program explored the future of journalism, the impact of artificial intelligence on media, and the intersection of technology and press freedom.

This year's theme, "Freedom of Expression in the Face of the AI Revolution," underscores the importance of safeguarding press freedom in the digital age.

Through discussions, mentorship sessions, and interactive engagements, participants gained valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities facing African news media outlets.

The NBI aims to empower young journalists, foster newsroom mentorship, and enhance media professionalism across Ghana's media landscape. By promoting collective effort and continuous dialogue, this initiative seeks to address critical challenges facing the industry and leverage journalism as a tool for socio-economic development.
