IGP Promotes Duo for Foiling Night Robbery
Accra, Ghana – 13 August, 2025 – In a testament to their bravery and dedication, the Ghana Police Service has promoted Chief Inspector Patience Kotoka and General Constable Joseph Akondoh for their outstanding service. The duo, who are part of the Anyaa District Police Command, played a crucial role in foiling a robbery and rescuing two victims during a daring night-time operation in Accra.
The officers' swift action and professionalism led to the arrest of several suspects and the recovery of stolen property. Their bravery and commitment to duty have earned them well-deserved recognition within the Ghana Police Service.
On August 7, 2025, at approximately 12:30 a.m., the officers stopped a green pickup truck carrying three passengers at Ablekuma Borkorborkor in the Greater Accra Region. Two men jumped from the vehicle and shouted for help, telling police they had been attacked during a robbery involving their 5,400-litre fuel tanker the previous night near Nsawam. The officers immediately intervened, rescuing the victims and arresting one suspect at the scene.
The remaining suspects fled, prompting follow-up operations in the Eastern Region, which led to the arrest of six more individuals. The stolen tanker and other exhibits were also recovered.
The Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, announced the promotions of Chief Inspector Kotoka and Constable Akondoh at a ceremony at the Police Headquarters on August 8, 2025. Constable Akondoh was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal, while Chief Inspector Kotoka has been recommended for admission to the next Police Cadet Course at the Police Academy, a step that could see her commissioned as a senior officer upon successful completion. Four Community Police Assistants (CPAs) who assisted in the operation were also honored.
Speaking at the ceremony, the IGP praised the officers and CPAs for their "professionalism, vigilance, and commitment to duty." He urged other personnel to emulate their example, emphasizing that dedication to duty is vital to maintaining public safety and confidence. The IGP reaffirmed the Police Administration's commitment to recognizing and rewarding officers who distinguish themselves in the line of duty.
