GIS Foils Cocoa Beans Smuggling Attempt in Bunkpurugu, Intercepts 25 bags

Bunkpurugu, Nort East Region, Ghana - 07 April, 2025 - Ghanaian immigration officers at the Bunkpurugu Sector Command in the Northeast Region have foiled an attempt to smuggle 25 bags of cocoa beans into neighboring Togo.
The operation, carried out on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at approximately 22:00 hours, was prompted by a tip-off.
The officers, led by Officer-in-Charge ACI Edwin Adjetey Doku, swiftly mobilized to the Kauk border community, where they laid an ambush and arrested two unregistered motor kings transporting the smuggled cocoa beans.
According to a statement signed by Rev. Edwin Adjetey Doku (ACI), Officer-in-Charge of the Bunkpurugu Sector Command, A total of 25 individuals on board the vehicles were also apprehended.
The team of officers involved in the operation included DSI Emmanuel D. Banya, Inspt Solomon Dogbakye, Asst Inspt. Zakaria Haruna, AICO I Philimon Kankamba, AICO I Siaw Obrimpong, AICO II Ernest Opuni, AICO II Ernest Tabiri, AICO II Rufai Alhassan, and AICO II Thomas Gamur.
The seized cocoa beans are being held by the Ghana Immigration Service at Bunkpurugu and will be transferred to the Ghana Revenue Authority's Customs Division for additional processing.
