I Appointed You to Solve Problems, Not Occupy Space - Mahama to Ministers

Ada, Ghana - 24 April, 2025 - Ghana's President John Dramani Mahama has issued a stern warning to his ministerial appointees, emphasizing that their performance will be judged on results, not mere presence.

Speaking at the launch of a four-day leadership programme in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ada on April 24, Mahama stressed that the Ghanaian people expect tangible outcomes, not excuses.

"You were appointed to solve problems, not occupy space. The Ghanaian people expect us to deliver. And we must – not with excuses, but with results. “We’re not here simply to orient ministers. We’re here to shape a collective mindset,'' Mahama told the appointees, underscoring the need for a collective mindset shift towards effective governance.

He urged them to abandon outdated approaches and adopt a renewed commitment to public service, cautioning that accountability will be strictly enforced under his leadership.

The business-as-usual approach will not work. Indeed, it is dead and we must bury it once and for all.''

The programme aims to foster a shared vision for effective governance among ministers, private sector leaders, and development partners.

Mahama's message was clear: ministers must deliver results or face replacement.

He emphasized the rising expectations among Ghanaians, particularly the youth, farmers, and entrepreneurs, who demand dignity and prosperity.

“Our young people are tired of waiting interminably. Our farmers, our workers, our entrepreneurs… want to live in dignity and prosperity,” he said.

“Please remember, when any of us fall short, I will not hesitate to act,” he concluded.
