Mahama Signs Book of Condolence of Late Namibian Leader Sam Nujoma

Accra, Ghana - 20 Feb, 2025 - Ghana's President John Dramani Mahama has paid tribute to the late Sam Nujoma, Namibia's founding president, by signing the book of condolence at the Namibian High Commission in Accra.

In his condolence message, President Mahama acknowledged Nujoma's immense contribution to Namibia's liberation and Africa's broader fight for dignity and freedom. He described Nujoma as a "liberation comrade" who had "truly fought a good fight".

“Liberation Comrade, you have truly fought a good fight, and now is the time for the faithful soldier to lay down his arm and take a rest.

"Namibia is truly grateful to you, and Africa is truly grateful to you for the dignity and freedom we enjoy as a people. Rest in peace, soldier, Sam Nujoma. Long live Africa and Namibia solidarity.”

Nujoma, who played a crucial role in Namibia's fight for independence from South Africa, passed away on February 8, 2025, at the age of 95.

He led the country from 1990 to 2005 after helping found the South West Africa People's Organisation (Swapo) in the 1960s.
