GH₵ 2.3 Million and Counting: Support Fund for Helicopter Crash Victims' Children Grows
Accra ,August 19 2025 - The Children's Support Fund, established by President John Dramani Mahama to support the children of the eight individuals who died in the August 6 military helicopter crash, has received a total of GH₵ 2,315,000 in donations. The fund aims to provide long-term support to the children, covering their education, healthcare, and welfare.
Dr. Valerie Sawyerr, Senior Presidential Advisor on Governmental Affairs, in a statement announced the President’s initiative is gaining significant support from corporate Ghana.
Dr. Sawyerr emphasized that donations to the Fund can be made via Stanbic Bank Ghana Limited (Stanbic Heights Branch, Accra) using the following accounts:

US Dollar (USD) Account: 9040013628534
Cheques and bank drafts should be made payable to: CHILDREN SUPPORT FUND 6825. She added that, in the spirit of accountability, a list of donors will be published weekly.
The helicopter crash on August 6, 2025, resulted in the deaths of eight individuals, including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Murtala Muhammed. The incident drew nationwide grief, with tributes pouring in from government officials, security services, and the public.
A state funeral was held on August 15, 2025, where the victims were laid to rest, and President Mahama announced the creation of the Children's Support Fund.
Donations and Contributors
Stanbic Bank Ghana made an initial seed donation of GH₵ 500,000, while other companies, including Procus GH Limited, GB Foods Ghana, Sunda FM Manufacturing Ltd, Sage Distribution Ltd, Quantum Oil Terminals, Quantum LPG Logistics Ltd, Newgas Cylinder Ltd, and Quantum Terminals PLC, also contributed to the fund.
Purpose and Impact
The Children's Support Fund reflects the government's commitment to honoring the sacrifices of the victims by providing care and protection for their children. The fund will cover:
- Education: From primary school to tertiary or technical training
- Healthcare: Including medical insurance and specialized care
- Welfare Support: Clothing, shelter, and essential living expenses
The fund is expected to continue attracting contributions from individuals, institutions, and organizations committed to supporting the welfare of the bereaved families.
