I am Innocent in Sky Train Case - Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi Speaks Out

Accra, Ghana - 30 May, 2025 - In a personal statement released on Friday, May 30, Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, former Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF) Board, has proclaimed his innocence and expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support he has received following his arraignment in connection with the contentious Sky Train project.
Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi, who served as Minister of Education under the John Agyekum Kufuor administration, confirmed that he has pleaded not guilty to all charges brought against him, emphasizing his commitment to transparency and accountability.
The Sky Train project, a $2.3 billion initiative launched in 2019 to modernize Ghana's urban transport system, was suspended due to concerns over procurement and financial viability. Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi, along with other former GIIF officials, is facing prosecution over the failed project.
Despite the challenges, he expressed heartfelt thanks to his family, friends, and legal counsel for their unwavering support. Notably, he also acknowledged backing from key political figures within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), including former MP Kennedy Agyapong and current MP Martin Kwaku Agyei Mensah Korsah, whom he praised for their loyalty and solidarity.
Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi welcomed the opportunity to clear his name, expressing full confidence in his innocence and resolve to navigate the legal process.

Personal Statement from Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi
I have taken note of the concerns expressed by many regarding the ongoing legal proceedings in the Sky Train case. I wish to state unequivocally that I have pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against me. I remain a firm believer in accountability pursued within the bounds of fairness and justice. I welcome the opportunity to clear my name and have full confidence in my innocence.
Since news of my arraignment, I have been deeply moved by the unwavering support and encouragement from my family, friends, and legal team. Their steadfast belief in my integrity has fortified my resolve during this challenging period. I continue to place my trust in the judicial system to uphold the truth.
I am equally grateful to all who have stood in solidarity with me during this time. I extend special appreciation to Hon. Kennedy Akompreko Agyapong, whose demonstration of true brotherliness has been deeply touching, and to Hon. Martin Kwaku Agyei Mensah Korsah, Member of Parliament for Techiman South, whose support underscores the enduring strength of family bonds.
The support from Hon. Mensah Korsah reaffirms my belief in the age-old adage: blood is indeed thicker than water. I also commend the camaraderie and enduring connection represented by Hon. Agyapong’s “Santaclausian brotherliness.”
