Health Alert - Ghana's Mpox Cases Surge to 409 with 37 New Infections
Accra, Ghana – 17 August, 2025 – The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed 37 new cases of Mpox, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 409 as of August 14, 2025. Two patients are currently receiving treatment in hospitals, while the majority of affected individuals are being managed in their communities under close surveillance.
Mpox, a viral disease, spreads mainly through close physical contact with an infected person. Symptoms include ,High body temperature ,Body Aches ,Swollen Lymph Nodes and Skin Rash.
According to the Ghana Health Service it is intensifying surveillance, contact tracing, and public education efforts to contain the spread of the disease. Authorities are urging the public to adopt strict preventive measures, including refraining from close physical contact with individuals suspected or confirmed to have Mpox ,minimizing touching of the eyes, nose, and mouth and promptly reporting any suspected cases to the nearest health facility
Meanwhile ,the government is working to procure Mpox vaccines for high-risk individuals.
Health experts have also emphasize the importance of individual responsibility and adherence to preventive practices in containing the spread of the disease.
