Accra, Ghana - 4 July, 2025 - Ghana recorded an estimated 15,290 new HIV infections and 12,614 AIDS-related deaths in 2024, according to the Ghana AIDS Commission.

Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, Deputy Chief of Staff, has stressed the importance of allocating resources fairly and developing region-specific plans to combat the HIV pandemic. The latest statistics, she said, should prompt stakeholders to redouble their efforts to secure funding and bridge gaps in service delivery.

“We must not overlook the sovereign reality of 12,614 AIDS-related deaths in the country. These gaps must urge us to focus on equitable resource allocation and tailored regional solutions to address the AIDS pandemic in Ghana,” she said at the launch of the 2024 HIV and AIDS Estimates and Projections on Thursday, July 3, in Accra.

“Government is working to close the funding gap to ensure there is no disruption in service delivery,” she added.

With approximately 334,721 Ghanaians living with HIV, the national prevalence rate stands at 1.49% among adults aged 15-49. Regional data shows significant disparities, with the Greater Accra Region having the highest number of people living with HIV at 77,821, while the Bono Region has the highest adult prevalence rate of 2.22%.

Furthermore, the Dormaa East District in the Bono Region has a prevalence rate of 5.36%, the highest at the district level. Ghana's progress toward the UNAIDS 95-95-95 targets is lagging, with 68% of people living with HIV aware of their status, 69% of those individuals receiving treatment, and 90% of those on treatment achieving viral suppression.
