NUGS Threatens to Sue WAEC Over WASSCE Results Delay

Accra, Ghana - 19 Feb, 2025 - The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has threatened to take legal action against the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) over its decision to withhold the results of some students.
The union has notified the police of its intention to stage a protest in demand of justice for the affected students.
In an interview with Citi News, NUGS President, Daniel Korley Botchway stated that the union seeks to expose what it describes as an abuse of power by WAEC.
According to him, the students are unhappy with WAEC's decision to release results only after university admissions have closed. He added that, this has denied many students the opportunity to secure university placements.
He disclosed that the union has vowed to take the matter to court to seek a declaration that would prevent WAEC from taking similar actions in the future and added that a protest is expected to take place soon, with students demanding that WAEC release all withheld results.
“We seek to bring home the minds of Ghanaians to the abuse of power and discretionary power of WAEC that what they have done is an injustice and that it should not happen again,'' he stated.
“Beyond this demonstration, it will not end there. We are also going to proceed to go to court. Admissions have closed. And so we are also going to get a declaration from the court to make sure that this doesn’t happen next year''.
