Thomas Nyarko Ampem is Ghana's Deputy Minister of Finance

Accra, Ghana -20 April, 2025 - Ghana's government is set to tackle rising transportation costs as Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Ampem Nyarko announces plans to negotiate with transport operators to slash fares following recent drops in fuel prices, a move expected to help curb inflation.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Kwahu Business Forum, Mr. Nyarko expressed optimism that the reduction in fuel prices would lead to lower transportation costs, ultimately contributing to a decline in inflation. He emphasized the government's commitment to working with various stakeholders, including the private sector, to drive economic growth.

The Deputy Finance Minister's comments come as the government continues to implement measures aimed at stabilizing the economy and promoting growth. The Kwahu Business Forum, which brought together key players from the public and private sectors, provided a platform for discussions on the country's economic prospects and challenges.

“As a government, we have committed and have started bringing down inflation. In fact, we are hoping that with the next inflation announcement, we see a significant improvement.

“We are seeing that fuel prices are also going down. In the next couple of weeks, we’ll have to engage transport operators so that they will also bring down lorry fares. Once all these happen, it will have a positive impact on inflation, and it will help us as a country,” he stated.

Mr. Nyarko, emphasized the importance of the gathering, citing the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin's attendance as proof of the government's dedication to working together with diverse stakeholders.

“The presence of the Minority Leader and everybody shows that the government wants to bring everybody—the private sector, everyone—together so that we can push the growth that we need in this country.''
