Govt to Slash Ordinary Passport Fee from GH¢500 to GH¢350

Accra, Ghana - 13 March, 2025 - Ghana's government has unveiled plans to significantly reduce the cost of obtaining an ordinary passport, slashing the price by over 25% from GH¢500 to GH¢350.
The announcement was made by Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, during a parliamentary session on March 13, 2025.
According to Ablakwa, the government recognizes concerns over the affordability of passports and is committed to ensuring reasonable pricing without compromising security.

To further enhance passport services, the Ministry will introduce a door-to-door delivery service as part of its new 24-hour service initiative. This reform aims to reduce processing times, allowing applicants to receive their passports within a week, instead of the current three to four weeks.
“The government recognises concerns about the affordability of the new passport and is committed to ensuring that the cost remains reasonable while maintaining high security standards. In our effort to make passports more accessible to all Ghanaians, and per the instruction I have received from the president, we are pleased to announce that the cost of the ordinary passport booklet, the 32-page, will be reduced from GH¢500 to GH¢350,'' he stated.
The price reduction is subject to parliamentary approval, with the Ministry set to present amendments to the fees and charges in the coming days.
“We will, in the coming days, be presenting the amendment of the fees and charges to ensure that this reduction is approved by the House,” he added.
