Ghana to Host Electric Vehicle Plant in Major China Deal

Beijing, China - 27 June, 2025 - Ghana's Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced a significant breakthrough in the country's quest to attract foreign investment. During his recent visit to China, Ablakwa revealed that GAC, a leading electric vehicle manufacturer, has agreed to favorably consider establishing an EV manufacturing plant in Ghana.

This development is expected to leverage Ghana's recently discovered lithium reserves, boost economic recovery, and create massive job opportunities.

The potential investment is a testament to Ghana's growing appeal to Chinese investors, particularly in the green technology sector. China is the global leader in EV manufacturing, with seven of the top 10 electric vehicle brands based in the country. Ghana's strategic partnership with GAC could enable the country to tap into China's groundbreaking EV technology, which experts say is 10 years ahead of the world.

Ablakwa's visit to China also resulted in a zero-tariff agreement on all Ghanaian exports to China, a move expected to bolster trade and support local businesses. The agreement is part of Ghana's efforts to leverage diplomacy for economic transformation, as the country seeks to strengthen its economic ties with China.

The minister expressed gratitude to the board and management of GAC for their hospitality and interest in Ghana, highlighting the country's renewed focus on economic diplomacy. Through this approach, Ghana aims to ensure that its foreign relations have a meaningful impact on the lives of its people.

''On my recent visit to China, GAC — a leading electric vehicle manufacturer agreed to give favorable consideration of Ghana for the establishment of an EV manufacturing plant.

''China is the global leader in EV manufacturing, with 7 of the 10 leading EV brands located in China. Experts say China is 10 years ahead of the world with its groundbreaking EV technology.

''I am grateful to the board and management of GAC for the wonderful hospitality when they hosted my delegation and I at their Panyu Headquarters, and for their great interest in our beloved Ghana,'' he added.
