MP denies fanning flames of NDC, NPP clash in Asesewa
Asesewa, Ghana - Member of Parliament for Upper Manya Krobo, Bismark Tetteh Nyarko, has refuted claims that he sparked violence between NDC and NPP supporters on August 26, 2024 in Asesewa.
The clash, which left two injured, was over District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) equipment parked at the NPP candidate's hotel.
In an interview with Citi FM News, Nyarko urged the DCE to move the equipment to the assembly premises to restore peace, emphasizing his commitment to harmony and calling for a peaceful resolution.
"When they were parading the machines along the street of Asesewa, my house is just close to the road. So when they got to my house, he [the NPP parliamentary candidate] got down to direct traffic. And his boys in the tipper [truck], they were throwing stones at my vehicle. We are on the ground and so how can we throw stones from above? They are in the tipper [truck], and they threw the stones, targeting one of my boys, and by God’s grace, the stone hit their own chairman," he stated.
“I will plead with my colleague DCE, that he is the chief executive of this district, and he should know better that he is representing the government or the president and he is not just an NPP member but the district chief executive.
“He allowed all these things to happen because we cautioned him. I personally called him and told him that he cannot put the parliamentary candidate’s picture on this grader because he has no hand in it," he added.
