Government Adds 13,500 Nurses to Payroll in Major Move

Accra,Ghana – September 3,2025 - The Ministry of Health has revealed substantial advancements in enhancing the working conditions of healthcare professionals, with a notable milestone being the integration of 13,500 nurses into the government payroll to bolster job security and working conditions.This development follows a constructive meeting between the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) leadership and Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh on September 3, 2025.

During the meeting, the GRNMA delegation extended a heartfelt apology to Minister Akandoh for a recent public criticism that sparked controversy. The apology comes after GRNMA's General Secretary, Dr. David Tenkorang-Twum, made remarks about the Minister's farming background that were widely criticized as unprofessional.

Minister Akandoh highlighted several key accomplishments of the current administration, including Nurse Payroll Integration,Ghana Medical Training Fund ,Health Facility Upgrades ,Arrear Settlements that included outstanding payments for nursing training allowances and National Health Insurance claims and Tuition Fee Relief.

The Ministry reaffirmed its dedication to implementing the collective bargaining agreement with the GRNMA, aimed at improving nurses' working conditions.

The meeting concluded with both parties expressing a renewed commitment to collaboration and advancing Ghana's healthcare sector. The GRNMA delegation included former President Alice Darkoa Asare-Allotey, immediate past President Dr. Krobea Asante, current President Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, and General Secretary Dr. David Tenkorang-Twum.
