GJA Warns Media: Stop Sensationalizing Helicopter Crash with Gory Images
Accra, Ghana – 7 August, 2025 - The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has called on media houses and the public to cease circulating disturbing and horrific images of the recent military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight individuals, including five senior government officials and three military crew members.
In a statement issued on Thursday, August 7, 2025, the GJA described the circulation of such images as "highly insensitive" and a breach of journalistic ethics. The association emphasized the need for media practitioners to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, sensitivity, and ethical conduct in their coverage of the incident.
The GJA urged media houses and the public to treat the incident with dignity and respect, honouring the memory of the departed. The association noted that the circulation of gory images would only worsen the trauma of grieving families and undermine the national healing process.
Meanwhile ,the GJA has expressed profound sorrow over the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight individuals, including five senior government officials and three military crew members, on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
The helicopter crash occurred in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed and six others. The incident has plunged the nation into mourning, with President John Mahama declaring three days of national mourning.
The GJA emphasized that as the nation mourns the loss of these distinguished individuals, it is essential for media practitioners to prioritize dignity and compassion in their coverage.
