GIPC Boss Simon Madjie Lauds UAE's $1bn Innovation Hub as 'Transformative'
Accra, Ghana - 25 June, 2025 - A major breakthrough in Ghana's bid to boost its digital economy has been achieved with the proposed establishment of a $1 billion innovation hub by the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The project, which is expected to start in 2026 and be completed by late 2027, has been hailed by the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) CEO, Mr. Simon Madjie, as a transformative initiative that will accelerate Ghana's technological excellence.
During a meeting with UAE Ambassador Dr. Abdulla Almandoos, Madjie emphasized the potential of the innovation hub to drive Ghana's digital transformation and position the country as a hub for technological excellence in the region.
The project is fully funded by the UAE's Ports, Customs and Free Zones Corporation (PCFC), with Ghana providing the land.
Ambassador Almandoos highlighted the mutual benefits of the project, encouraging telecom companies to establish operations in the hub. He revealed that occupants of the hub will be offered UAE licenses, further enhancing the project's appeal.
According to Dr. Almandoos, the Ghana-UAE Innovation and Technology Hub aims to drive sustainable growth, foster collaboration, and boost innovation across various sectors.
"This initiative can accelerate Ghana’s digital transformation and position the country as a hub for technological excellence in the region “he said.
The innovation hub is expected to have a significant impact on Ghana's economy, creating new opportunities for businesses and entrepreneurs. With its strategic location and growing tech ecosystem, Ghana is well-positioned to benefit from this initiative.
The project is also expected to attract foreign investment, create jobs, and contribute to the country's economic growth.
