Ghana Navy, Petroleum Commission Commit to Safeguarding Maritime Domain

Accra, Ghana - 18 Feb, 2025 - In a bid to bolster maritime security, the acting Chief Executive Officer of the Petroleum Commission, Ms. Emeafa Hardcastle has held with the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Issah Adam Yakubu to strengthen collaboration between the two institutions on maritime security.

The meeting, held at the Naval Headquarters, was aimed at strengthening the existing partnership between the two institutions. Discussions centered on enhancing security within the maritime sector, particularly in the Gulf of Guinea, where piracy and other transnational maritime crimes have been on the rise.

Ms. Hardcastle emphasized the Commission's commitment to supporting the Navy in securing Ghana's maritime domain and ensuring a safe operational environment for the oil and gas industry. Vice Admiral Yakubu, in turn, highlighted the crucial role the Ghana Navy plays in securing the nation's territorial waters.

The Chief of the Naval Staff also stressed the need for continuous capacity building and specialized training for naval personnel to support the growing oil and gas sector. He emphasized that this would enable the Navy to effectively respond to emerging maritime security threats.

As part of the visit, Ms. Hardcastle and her team toured key facilities at the Naval Headquarters, including the Maritime Operating Centre and the Vessel Traffic Management and Information System Centre. The visit was seen as a significant step towards deepening cooperation between the Petroleum Commission and the Ghana Navy.

The meeting was attended by other senior officials, including Mr. Kwaku Boateng, Director of Economics and Local Content, and Mr. Mohammed A. Kapeon, Manager of Petroleum Security at the Commission.

Vice Admiral Yakubu presented Ms. Hardcastle with a commemorative plaque and a customized Ghana Navy Kente stole, symbolizing the enduring cooperation between the Navy and the Petroleum Commission.
