Mahama Appoints Rev. Stephen Wengam as Chairman of Ghana Immigration Service Governing Council

Accra, Ghana - 27 June, 2025 - Ghana's President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Reverend Dr. Stephen Wengam, General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Ghana, as Chairman of the Governing Council of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS).

The appointment was officially confirmed at an inauguration ceremony held at the Ministry of the Interior in Accra.

The newly constituted council is expected to provide strategic direction and oversight for the GIS, a critical agency responsible for border security, migration management, and contributing to national development efforts.

Rev. Dr. Wengam brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously chaired the Ghana Prisons Service Council, where he led reforms and infrastructure development initiatives.

As General Superintendent of Assemblies of God Ghana, Rev. Dr. Wengam has demonstrated leadership and commitment to public service. His academic background, which includes degrees in Administration(Marketing) from the University of Ghana and Theology, as well as a Diploma in Christian Clinical Counselling from the International Theological Seminary (USA)., will likely serve him well in his new role.
