GH₵5.8m dialysis centre unveiled at Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital

Mampong, Eastern Region, Ghana - 03 May, 2025 - Ghana's healthcare landscape has taken a significant step forward with the unveiling of a state-of-the-art kidney dialysis centre at Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital in Mampong, Eastern Region.
The GH₵5.8 million facility, established through a collaborative effort between the Sustainable Health Education and Interventions (SHEILD) NGO, Enterprise Group PLC, and other partners, aims to enhance treatment options for patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) in the region.
The centre, equipped with advanced dialysis units and a water purification system, is expected to serve over 300,000 people in the Eastern Region and surrounding areas who suffer from CKD. Ghana currently has fewer than 400 dialysis machines serving the entire country, with most concentrated in just a few regions, forcing patients to travel long distances for treatment.
Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, who graced the unveiling ceremony, emphasized the fundamental right to healthcare stating; “The enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of health is one of the fundamental rights of every human being without distinction of race, religion, political belief, economic or social condition.”
Meanwhile, Minister of Health Kwabena Mintah Akandoh highlighted the need for sustainable financing mechanisms to support CKD treatment.
The launch of the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital Dialysis Fund aims to support vulnerable and marginalized patients.
