NHIA Sets 90-Day Claim Limit to Ensure Timely Reimbursements
Ghana's National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has announced that it will no longer accept health insurance claims older than 90 days.
The new policy, which comes into effect on 1 November 2024, aims to improve the efficiency of the country's health insurance scheme.
In a notice, NHIA reminded healthcare providers to renew their credentials online at least six months before they expire.
According to the NHIA, the move is part of its efforts to ensure timely reimbursements for healthcare services and to comply with the country's Public Financial Management Act.
''In its commitment to ensure timely reimbursements for services rendered and to follow the fiscal policy requirements of the Public Financial Management Act, 2016(Act 921), the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) will, from 1st November 2024 discontinue accepting claims that are more than 90 days from the month of service.
''The Authority further reminds our cherished healthcare providers that the renewal process for credentialing must be initiated online and six (6) months before expiry of status,'' portions of the notice read.
