GH¢30,000 Bribe Claim Sparks Urgent Probe into Ghana's School Placement System

Accra , October 22,2025 - Ghana's Ministry of Education has initiated an urgent investigation into allegations of bribery in the ongoing school placement process. The probe follows claims made by Member of Parliament for Akrofuom, Hon. Joseph Azumah, that an individual paid GH¢30,000 to secure a school placement for their child.

According to a press statement issued by the Ministry on October 22, 2025, Deputy Minister for Education Dr. Clement Apaak emphasized the Ministry's commitment to maintaining the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and fairness in the school placement process. The allegations, which were also echoed by Richard Asamoah Mensah, Secretary of the Construction and Building Workers' Union of the Ghana Trade Union Congress, have been viewed with "utmost seriousness and concern" by the Ministry.

Details of the AllegationsHon. Joseph Azumah reportedly stated that someone who knew he was an MP approached him for help with securing admission to a certain school. Within a week, the individual returned with evidence showing they had paid GH¢30,000 to secure the placement. Azumah questioned the morality of such practices.

Meanwhile ,the Ministry has referred the allegations to National Security for a thorough investigation emphasizing that any individual found guilty of manipulating the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) will face the full rigors of the law.

Dr. Apaak reaffirmed the Ministry's commitment to safeguarding the integrity of the placement process, ensuring access to secondary education remains free, fair, and merit-based for every Ghanaian child.

The Ministry has also called on Hon. Joseph Azumah, Richard Asamoah Mensah, and anyone with credible information to cooperate fully with investigators to ensure accountability.

This development comes amid growing concerns about corruption and irregularities in Ghana's school placement system.
