GFA Congress Approves Three-Term Limit for Presidents in Landmark Vote

Accra, Ghana – 12 August, 2025 – The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has made a significant amendment to its constitution, extending the presidential term limit from two to three terms.

This decision was approved by an overwhelming majority of 114 votes in favor out of 124 members present at the 31st Ordinary Session of Congress held on August 12, 2025, at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.

The amendment, which takes immediate effect, will allow GFA presidents to serve up to three four-year terms. This change has sparked discussions about its potential impact on the leadership and governance of Ghanaian football.

In addition to the presidential term limit amendment, the GFA also approved the elevation of the Women's Football Representative on the GFA Executive Council to the role of Second Vice-President. This move aims to increase gender representation at the top level of football governance, promoting diversity and inclusivity within the GFA leadership.

The 31st Ordinary Session of Congress brought together key stakeholders from various football bodies, including ,Premier League representatives ,Division One League representatives ,Women's Premier League representatives ,Regional football associations ,Professional Footballers Association of Ghana and other constituent bodies.

These stakeholders played a crucial role in shaping the future of Ghanaian football through their participation in the congress.
