Oguaa, Ghana – 12 August, 2025 -The Oguaa Traditional Council has imposed a fine of GH¢30,000 on broadcaster Ato Trustworthy for making disparaging comments about the Omanhen, Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II, on TikTok. The fine comes after Mr. Trustworthy apologized to the council for his remarks, which were deemed disrespectful.

The incident occurred during the PANAFEST durbar when the Asafo Companies in Oguaa reportedly denied Nana Kwodwo Condua VI, the Omanhen of the Edina Traditional Area, entry to the durbar grounds at the Victoria Park in Cape Coast. Mr. Trustworthy made a TikTok live post denigrating the Omanhen over the incident, which drew public attention and cultural concern.

As part of the fine, Mr. Trustworthy has been directed to pay GH¢30,000: The fine must be paid within 14 days and present three male sheep ;one for Nananom, one for the Asafo companies, and a third to be carried through specific routes in Cape Coast as part of reconciliatory rituals.

The third sheep will be carried from the London Bridge, where the sacred statue of the land's totem, the crab, stands, through Melcom, in front of the Cape Coast Castle, and finally to the Emintsimadze Palace, where it will be purified by Nananom.

The broadcaster is also expected to provide 12 bottles of schnapps as part of the traditional directives.

The Oguaamanhen and his council of chiefs officially accepted Mr. Trustworthy's apology after he tendered a second apology, accompanied by traditional protocols and a significant show of humility. The apology was made at a solemn meeting at the Emintsimadze Palace, where Mr. Trustworthy was cautioned not to repeat such behavior.

The Omanhen emphasized the importance of upholding cultural values and respect for traditional authority, especially from individuals in the media space who hold public influence. "The palace is a place of peace and reconciliation. We welcome Ato Trustworthy’s remorse, but tradition must be followed for peace to prevail," said Osabarimba.

Mr. Trustworthy has been given 14 days to pay the fine and fulfill all other obligations to seal the forgiveness and signify the cleansing for the offense.
