Mustapha Gbande is the Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency

Accra, Ghana - 01 April, 2025 - A shocking scandal has unfolded in Ghana, with over 1,300 containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) mysteriously vanishing from Tema Port.

Mustapha Gbande, Deputy Director in charge of Operations at the Presidency, is calling for swift action, demanding the immediate arrest of three former officials allegedly involved in the scandal namely; Alexander Afenyo-Markin, former Board Chairman of ECG; Matthew Opoku Prempeh, former Energy Minister; and Samuel Dubik Mahama, former CEO of ECG.

Gbande emphasized the need for accountability, stating that the country cannot continue to tolerate corruption and that it's time to take action.

“The Board Chairman, Afenyo-Markin, now wants to run away from responsibility, and it is in the interest of the country for him to be arrested immediately,” Gbande declared on Citi FM on Monday, March 31.

“I am calling for the immediate arrest of Afenyo-Markin, Samuel Dubik Mahama, and Matthew Opoku Prempeh because we cannot continue to have these instances of corruption, and it is time for us to take action.”

Investigations into the vanished containers point to a trail of dubious deals and procurement breaches, with suspicions that certain ex-government officials and top ECG brass may have turned a blind eye to the irregularities.
