Fuel Tanker Carnage: 4 Dead, 14 Injured in Oti Region Market Crash
Asukawkaw, Ghana – 14 August, 2025 – Tragedy struck in Asukawkaw, a town in Ghana's Oti Region, on Thursday, August 14, 2025, as a fuel tanker careened out of control and crashed into a bustling market crowd, claiming four lives and leaving 14 people battered and bruised.
The devastating accident occurred in the Krachi East Municipality, sending shockwaves through the community.
According to eyewitnesses, the fully loaded tanker was speeding into town when it suddenly swerved off the road and tore through the crowd, leaving bodies and mangled goods in its wake. The victims were market women going about their normal activities when the tanker hit them. The deceased include three women and a one-year-old girl, while the injured are receiving treatment at nearby health facilities.
The police responded promptly to the scene.
The driver of the tanker has been arrested to assist with investigations into the cause of the accident. The bodies of the deceased have been conveyed to the Worawora Government Hospital morgue.
The Assembly Member for the Asukawkaw Electoral Area, Mark Oduro, described the incident as a "very sad day for our community". He expressed his condolences to the families of the victims as the incident has thrown the farming community into deep mourning.
The cause of the accident is yet to be confirmed, and investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
